More of the same, I like that

Another week in the books and another catalog of badassery that's hard to put into words or photos.  I am certain they will find their way into the anecdotes and camp fire stories in the years to come by way of half drunk related tall tales full of the typical embellishments and comical recollections.  I'm not sure if this blog has a point beyond preserving the broad outline of those memories and providing my friends and family with proof that I'm still kicking.  So I sit and try to recall everything the past 7 days brought to being and I can only laugh to myself and smile in a very real way knowing that it's simply impossible to accurately relay it all.  I mean to some degree that's the point right?  I'm here doing this shit instead of reading it on purpose.  This isn't an accident.  F, or maybe I'm just a terrible writer.  I'd say a pretty important step in writing is being able to put pen to paper. Right now I suck at that.  Niiiiice

Soooooo, top notch race in Acambaro last weekend that had all of roots, heart, and soul of the old school Superfly Invitational races we used to host back circa 1998-2006.  We knew we were doing it right back then (maybe, we were also drunk most of the time) and that only gets reaffirmed every time I find another group of dudes elsewhere with the same stoke and genuine party.  Damn Xavi and Marmota put on a great event even if she did piss harder than a two-peckered goat on a tin roof (Brent).  The rain saved itself for about 20 minutes before the race started and then let all holy hell loose on us.  That didn't deter this group of 40 or so dudes from sending it down a course complete with man-jumps, 60 second+ rock gardens, and top speed flat cornering.  I put together a reasonably good run and took home 3rd behind Marmota and Fabian "Cachetes".  My man Cachetes is fast AF and set to do a couple stops on the UCI World Cup DH tour next year so I'd say we had some real talent in the field and this old dog held his own.

Then yeah you know the day stayed pretty standard with a quick trip to a local drag strip that afternoon, complete with heavy drinking and gambling on random cars well into the night with little to no safety equipment for the drivers, friends, or fans.  Sounds about right.  Did I explain that scene well enough?  Drag racing without seat-belts, drunk with friends (drivers), occasionally a few kids in the car going down the track, no lights on the strip, just head lights at 150+ mph.  Taint a big deal.

The next morning sore with life we rolled out on a long ride that didn't leave time for a hangover or dragging any sort of ass.  Our group of five didn't flinch at the prospect of cranking out 50+ miles and 6k or so feet of climbing to the highest point in GTO.  Sure it took us 7-8 hours, sure we put down a few beers a piece, sure I had GI emergency and had to relieve myself in a corn field with an old man yelling in my direction, but I'd say that's a pretty badass way to recover from/continue such a great weekend.

I'm back in San Luis de la Paz now to get my act together for the next couple of weekends of riding and racing.  I do believe I only have 2 more races here in MX before I sell all of the bike gear and cut weight to head south for real.  It looks like the last race will be an urban DH in the city of Puebla, MX October 21st.  Not exactly stoked to be seeing the end of the mtn bike leg of this adventure but daaaaaamn trimming down to just a surfboard and a small amount of gear to hit the road for real is sounding better and better.  Ok F, I'm getting way, way ahead of myself.  There's still a lot of ass to kick in the next few weeks.

It's also worth noting that Rita is running excellent and I'm keeping up on proper maintenance and such.  The first 4 weeks of this trip have gone by at a reasonable pace and I feel myself realizing one of the key ideas I was after to begin with.  Life is slowing down and the days are taking longer.   I enjoy the nights I don't sleep like a log, and the days it takes Rita and I 4 hours to go 100 km.  Life is good, we're headed in the right direction, I'm a happy boy.  Cheers Jah!
